ABOUT THE BOOK: "The Last Confederate Flag" by Lloyd E. Lenard

FROM THE PUBLISHER
This novel explores the philosophical controversy over the flying of the Confederate flag.

Stonewall Bedford of Forest, Georgia had no idea that when he rose at a city council meeting in vigorous opposition to militants chanting, "Pull down that flag over General Lee's monument!" that the incident would mark the first skirmish in an all-out assault against his beloved flag and the South's cultural heritage

Worth your time
This book should not just be read by Southerners, but by all Americans. While just a fictional story, the author gives excellent examples of how the "race card" is being used too often in our country today, and what it could possibly lead to in the future. Hopefully this book will shed some light to those walking in the dark.

Phenomenal book!
Mr. Lenard has created a fast-paced, brilliant book. This is well worth reading by any American....but especially the Southern population who may not be aware of what is and has transpired the last few years toward those individuals that still hold the "Southern" traditions and ideals with much respect and honor.

Even though Mr. Lenard's book is a fictional read, the subject matter of the book has been in the national news many times since the publishing of the book.

It is very sad that many American's do not know their own history. And even scarier is that many will believe anything that they view on television news or newspapers.

In conclusion, I could not put this book down. A true page-turner indeed.

A Must Read for Southerners
This is a chilling account of anti-South bigotry run amuck. It is fictional---for now. Read this and prepare yourself for the fight to keep our cherished Heritage. Hopefully if we all become aware of what could happen, we can keep this story from becoming reality. Fly the Flag!

A Fascinating Novel
"The Last Confederate Flag" is a fascinating novel I couldn't put down once I started reading it. This book is a wakeup call as to what can happen if Southerners are not vigilant when it comes to protecting our heritage and our beloved flag. I encourage people of the South to get a copy of this important novel, read it, then spread the word.

Hopefully Not The Last
Author, WWII Veteran Lloyd E. Lenard, has written a gripping account of politically correct motivated attacks against the culture, heritage, traditions and symbols of the Old South. He is very familiar with the arguments for both sides of this controversy. He offers a compelling defense against these attacks.
The story unfolds in the ficitional Georgia City of Forrest during modern times. Southerner, Stoney Bedford, the leading character, stands in defense against efforts by those desiring to remove the Confederate flag and the General Robert E. Lee monument at city hall. Bedford's narration is an emotional roller coaster of contentment, disbelief, frustratiion, courage, anger, suspense and shock. Similar alarming scenarios are occurring all across the Southland today. This book should be considered historical fiction.
The Last Confederate Flag is recommended for mature readers desiring a more thorough understanding of both sides of the southern heritage debate, and also for those who just enjoy reading a histrionic novel.

Rousing and relevent...
Lenard's Bedford reminds me somewhat of Tom Wolfe's Charlie Croker from "A Man in Full." A Southern man of tradition forced to live in a world that regards him as suspicious at best and quite possibly dangerous. Stoney Bedford's world quickly begins to unravel when he takes a stand against the removal of the Confederate Flag.

The story is a worthy read and I devoured it in about 2 days. There are a few problems which prevented me from giving it a full five stars. It needed a good editor. Some of the characters (the psychiatrist especially) spout off things in public no one would ever say. All the protagonists in the book have identical ideologies and are all a little too concerned about The War Between the States. This is fine for the main protagonist and makes him interesting and unique, but it seems stretched to have all the protagonists share his particular view. A trial in the story is referred to as Kafkaesque and Orwellian about two dozen times. There are a number of mispellings when referring to proper names (calling Kazakhstan Kazachstan, calling the Hutu tribesmen the Huttos, etc, etc). Again, nothing really bad but things a good editor would have spotted.

Nevertheless, the story itself is worth the read. Lenard has a developed gift of description. His scenes of Georgia outdoor environs are professionally done and evocative. Most of the characters are well-drawn and multi-dimensional. Their feelings and motivations translate well to the reader. Stoney Bedford comes to life with a deep history and full sense of purpose. The reader wants him to win!

When Principled Man Meets Big Brother
"The Last Confederate Flag" is the most true to life fiction I've ever read. This story, filled with memorable characters and surprise after surprise, seems more current than the daily news and more Orwellian than "1984".

I seldom read fiction and have never before looked ahead to discover what was going to happen next because I couldn't wait to find out.

This is a story about what happens when a man with principles meets those without principles in an age of political correctness and big government!

Lloyd Lenard has not only authored a riveting story about heritage, love and courage but one that has much to teach those who believe "in truth, justice and the American way."
